2019-09-27 Stonewall Jackson @ Westfield
Stonewall Jackson and Westfield had met the previous 2 seasons during the regular season with each going to the Bulldogs 21-0 in 2017, 31-13 in 2018. But both teams came into this game undefeated. Westfield came in beating previous unbeaten Lake Braddock in a thriller 40-34. Stonewall Jackson entered the game with wins over Garfield 41-7, Forest Park 48-7, and Brook Point 42-7. Stonewall came in with only one winning season since 2013. Westfield has gone 82-9 since 2013 in all games including the playoffs, including 3 consecutive 6A State championships in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
In the 1st quarter with 4:24 the hometown Bulldogs used Noah Kim’s leadership and a Virginia Tech signee to sneak in from 1 yard out . The PAT was unsuccessful and the Bulldogs were atop early 6-0.
In the 2nd quarter Bulldog wide receiver Alex Richards took a Noah Kim pass 62 yards for a touchdown. The PAT was successful by James Williams and Westfield now led 13-0, with 11:48 to play in the half. Later in the quarter the Red Raiders would get on the board after Elijah Reese secured a pass in the end zone between two Westfield defenders. The lead was now 13-7 with still 5:06 to play before halftime.
The 3rd quarter started with Westfield kicking off to Stonewall Jackson who had deferred to the second half. Khalid Willams after receiving the kickoff would break into Bulldog territory before being caught by former Stonewall Jackson teammate and now Westfield Bulldog , Avery Howard. Howard was able to slap down at the ball and swipe it to the turf where teammate ET Bushra fell on the ball. Although the Bulldogs failed to score they gained field position and stopped any potential momentum the Red Raiders had gained.
Noah Kim would rush in for his his second touchdown with 2:36 to play in the 3rd quarter. Williams wasagain successful on the PAT giving Westfield a 20-7 lead with just over a quarter to play.
Later in the 4th quarter James Williams would add a 22 yard field goal with 7:46 to play and that would be the final margin of 23-7.
Westfield QB Noah Kim would complete 13 of his 23 passes for 243 yards and a TD, while rushing for 2 TD’s. Alex Richards had 7 receptions for 164 yards and a TD, Michael Ritchie caught 3 passes for 43 yards and carried the ball for 21 yards on one carry. Eli Soto added 3 receptions for 36 yards. Isaiah Daniels carried the ball 20 times for 42 yards.
Westfield improves to (4-0) and will play at WT Woodson (3-1). Stonewall Jackson falls to (3-1) and will host John Champe (3-1)
